About Shir Hadash
Kehilat Shir Hadash
Shir Hadash is a Jerusalem based community and educational center dedicated to bringing Jews closer to Judaism and closer to one another. Its synagogue, nursery school and vast array of educational programs are devoted to expanding one's knowledge of Judaism, love of fellow Jews, and commitment to building a passionate, ethically centered and hesed-infused community. And true to Shir Hadash's name, all its activities emphasize the positive attributes of Jewish tradition, such as joy, meaningfulness and warmth -- the Shir (Song) of Judaism if you will -- in what is hopefully a new and creative (Hadash) way.
The Rabbi
Rabbi Ian Pear and his wife Rachel founded Shir Hadash in the year 2000 shortly after making aliya from the United States, he from Arizona and she from New York. Rabbi Pear received his rabbinical ordination from Yeshiva University, and holds degrees in law from New York University and International Politics and Security from Georgetown University. The Pear's have three children, Gavriella, Michaella and Darya.
Previously Rabbi Pear served as the Director of Tel Aviv University's Hillel Foundation, the college campus with the largest Jewish student population in the world. Before that, he was the Rabbinical Intern at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale.
